Master Lock offers the service of designing either a new or adding to an existing Master Key System for your organization.

In a Master Key System, a Master Key opens all the locks in the system although each lock has its own unique key.

In order to maximize the scope and flexibility of a new system, please evaluate your current and future organizational needs

Step 1: Determine the size of the master key system. Consider the following:

Current users; often consulting an organizational chart can help determine existing needs. Future requirements; commonly, a 10 year life of a master key system is recommended:

Employee turnover & termination
Increased staffing
Building expansion
Lost keys

Step 2: Determine whether a padlock only or padlock & door lock Master Key System is serve you best for your company.

Selecting a New Padlock Master Key System
In a padlock only Master Key System, any of the Master Lock padlocks and most laminated padlocks can be used. However, there cannot be cross-over to locks that use either a door key or interchangeable core cylinder. Master Lock provides and will maintain Key Record-keeping for padlock Master Key Systems. A Master Key System Record is a listing of all the assigned key cuts to a padlock system. Should your organization’s Master Key System need expansion in the future, the key record is used as a reference to ensure that the new locks do not duplicate current key cuts, safeguarding the security of the system.

Master Key System – Master Lock will provide a copy of the record, at an additional charge, as requested. The Master Lock chart references the key cut to the lock serial number. Your organization may find it useful to keep records by serial number of which employee is assigned a specific lock.

Interchangeable Core Master Key System

These Master Key Systems are capable of integrating padlocks and door locks. Master Lock ProSeries® padlocks can be used in this system. This system can allow the same key to operate both padlocks and door locks. If you prefer a system that only applies to padlocks, please review the Padlock Master Key section. Master Lock provides and will maintain Key Record-keeping for Master Key Systems. A Master Key System Record is a listing of all the assigned key cuts to a lock system.

Expanding an Existing Master Key System
If Master Lock Company designed the original Master Key System, specify the key codes for the new locks.
